Recent Land Management Work
Special thanks to Americorps Cape for helping to maintain the White’s Lane and Young/Flint Conservation Areas. On December 12, 2014, 12 Americorps Members helped remove more than 15 tons of invasive plant vegetation, mow back two early succession fields, and turn over diamond backed terrapin turtle nesting habitat. At the end of a hard workday all involved were awarded a special treat, a diamond backed terrapin hatchling was found more than 8 inches under the soils surface! With this find we have a total of 66 terrapin hatchlings found on site this year, making all the hard land management work worth it.
