Arbor Day 2017

This Arbor Day, AmeriCorps Cape Cod partnered up with the Orleans Tree Department and OCT to do a series of plantings at the Snow Library in Orleans. The American Rhododendron Society was kind enough to donate a large variety of rhododendron, trees, and other plants to be used in the gardens. The Orleans Tree Department traditionally completes a planting project for Arbor Day as a member of Tree City USA.  The project was led by town Tree Warden Dan Connolly and AmeriCorps Cape Cod Individual Placement Derek Brudahl (placed with both OCT and the town Tree Department).

AmeriCorps Cape Cod members spent the day planting, weeding, and mulching the area to ensure that the plants have everything they need to thrive and grow.  This public space is intended for the community to enjoy nature while also enjoying a good book.

While AmeriCorps volunteers were helping plant and take care of the trees, a small group of volunteers went with the Orleans Conservation Trust to replace a bench at Boland Pond Pocket Park on Route 6A.
